Moon Through The Houses

Note: This is a very general, high level description of the placement of the moon in each house. An ideal placement for the moon would be 1) bracketed by a benefic on each side/house 2) in its own sign of cancer or exaltation 3) unafflicted by house position (not in 6th, 8th or 12th) or and no aspects to malefics

Moon in the 1st

With your moon in the 1st house, people notice your sensitivity. They notice that you wear your heart on your sleeve and your emotions on your face. They notice your big, often watery eyes which reveal the depths of your soul. You are seen as mysterious, alluring and maternal. Your face reveals your ever changing moods and there is no place to hide from the world. Sometimes, people misinterpret your soft, limpid features for a weak personality and they could be very wrong.

Moon in the 2nd

Your emotional security is tied to your finances which can change like the phases of the moon. When you feel financially secure and stable, you are generous, giving and nurturing. When your financial stability is threatened, your giving, generous nature could change to being stingy or tightfisted. An afflicted moon in this house has the predisposition to ‘eating‘ their troubles or stresses. Or practicing retail therapy. When emotions/feelings are connected to self worth, the individual finds themselves in a precarious position of re-defining self worth cyclically like the tides.

Moon in the 3rd

A highly communicative placement; you are quick witted, curious and prone to over thinking. Unless afflicted, the moon placed in this house indicates a good relationship with siblings, if any. You possibly enjoy traveling, especially short weekend trips. School would have been relatively effortless and learning comes easy to you.

Moon in the 4th

Home is where the heart is and your heart is firmly rooted within the four walls of your home. Extremely private, you are the quintessential homebody who prefers being at home vs doing things that other people your age normally do. Its because you consider your home your safe space, your cocoon and sanctuary. You are very attached to your family, especially mother, despite the ups and downs you may experience in your relationship with them.

Moon in the 5th

When unafflicted, the Moon in the 5th makes you generous with a childlike enthusiasm and excitement for life. People like being around you because you bring a sunny disposition and a love for life that is unparalleled. You enjoy being the center of attention. Your penchant for taking risks extends to romantic endeavours too. You love being in love and might have a volatile romantic life.

Moon in the 6th

This house is not the optimal placement for the sensitive Moon. Although you are very caring and wish to be of service to others in your life, relationships would often be fraught with friction. These ups and downs in relationships affect your emotional and mental health so strong boundaries are needed with others or you will be taken advantage of. Your work must have meaning and connect to a larger purpose in life or you will lose interest and change jobs. You are likely great with animals and kids and volunteering at animal shelters will bring you emotional satisfaction and peace.

Moon in the 7th

This is not a placement for para-social relationships as you need to feel that sense of connection on a one-on-one basis. But, your inter-personal relationships will have highs and lows just like the tides. Don’t attach your self worth to the validation and approval of another person and you should be fine.

Moon in the 8th

The moon is extremely uncomfortable in the 8th house. She cannot express her true nature and is confronted with the shadow sides of her personality. These manifest as being generally mistrustful and suspicious of others and their intentions, jealousy and possessiveness and a tendency to indulge in malicious gossip.

Individuals with their moon in the 8th project their own shadow or the unseen dark side of the moon on to others. When one goes looking for trouble, one eventually finds it. Those with moon in the 8th expect the worst in people and therefore, they are presented with the worst like a self fulfilling prophecy.

Moon in the 9th

This is the expanded, super conscious version of the Moon in the 3rd. Your perspective is expansive because you enjoy traveling to far off places and experiencing diverse points of view. You are deeply philosophical with a strong sense of justice, idealism and a love for all living beings. You are the popular teacher, sought after mentor and the benevolent leader.

Moon in the 10th

The married to career placement. You are emotionally fulfilled by your job and your status at work and in society. You crave recognition and validation from authority figures and when you don’t receive this validation or approval, you may get extremely disheartened or disillusioned.

Moon in the 11th

You have an effortless and natural way with big groups and communities. Your sensitivity and charm attract others to you like a magnet. You may be very tuned into the emotions of the collective and sometimes this could be a big drain on your own self expression and energy levels. You enjoy being a part of a team and possibly are the pivot around which the team functions.

Moon in the 12th

Another uncomfortable and very sensitive place for the Moon, but this time its the house where matter goes to be dissolved or merged into the collective conscious. Planets in the 12th are in the blind spot for the chart holder. The individual might not even be aware of their own emotions and feelings, although these would be visible to everyone else. Take periodic breaks from others to meditate or practice art, necessary to maintain good emotional well being.
