The Sun Through The Houses

Note: These are general high level descriptions and may or may not apply exactly to your birth chart. The Sun is a semi-malefic or a harsh/cruel/ruthless (क्रूर) planet in Jyothish. The symbolism of the Sun in astrology follows the impact of the sun in our world. The early morning Sun is mild, nurturing and a benefic. The Sun at mid-day is super harsh and can burn one to a crisp, especially in Summer. Given its fiery nature, it expresses itself well in fire signs (unless afflicted). In an earth sign or worse-water signs, the Sun is in an antagonistic element and malfunctions. It does not know which way is up. On the other hand, In an air sign, the Sun is in a compatible, friendly element and performs well.

Sun in the 1st house

The rising Sun as it were because the Sun in the first house, especially when the ascendant is Leo, Aries or Sagittarius, is warm, generous, ambitious, straightforward and noble (if unafflicted). These individuals attract the spotlight where ever they are, effortlessly. They are authority, and attract the favor of authoritative figures, courageous and powerful.

Sun in the 7th house

A tricky placement to have in the house of the ‘other’. The native with this placement will find their own identity through their interpersonal relationships with others. Helping others is effortless and ensures happiness as long as the chart holder does not identify too much with their peers or community or tribe.

Sun in the 12th house

The house of dissolution makes the Sun here very uncomfortable. The native with this placement might feel insecure and very misunderstood because others cannot figure out who the chart holder is and therefore these natives get projected on. So, this placement spends a lifetime trying to figure out themselves and needs a lot of solitude to complete this task.
